Hello everyone! Jenn here today sharing a fun mixed media project! This project started out as a blank wooden star I purchased from my local craft store. By adding altered chipboards, paper, and textures, I created a vibrant home decor piece that any fan of grunge/steampunk style is sure to enjoy!
I started with the star base and layered papers over it. A heavy layer of clear gesso was applied to the paper to prep them for ink and other textures.
While this part dried, I altered my chipboards using an array of rust paste, acrylic paints, and waxes. The chipboard pieces were prepped with clear gesso prior to adding paints. I just love all that rusty, ptina, grungy goodness!
**TIP** To create the rusty/patina look layer the paint by dabbing the colors onto the pieces, one color at a time. Allow them to partially dry in between colors. Add waxes last and be sure to use a vibrant gold either paint or wax for the best “metal” look.
Adding fussy cut images, flowers, microbeads, glitter, and art stones adds texture and completes the project!
