Finger Fun with Jess Larios

Inky Layers with Jess Larios

This month the photo inspired me to pull out my journal. I rarely ever make journal pages, but I figured it’d be a perfect substrate. I decided to use some of that paper that just sits around in my craft room. Luckily I had some writing-themed paper. The first thing I did was use the Typewriter Keys Stencil and some sparkly glamour paste to add some texture and dimension to the background. Next, I altered my Ink and Quill, Wood Veneer Feathers, and Feathers chipboard pieces using acrylic paints. I matted all my paper pieces on some heavy cardstock and distressed the edges with scissors and black ink. Piece by piece I made the layers. I hope you are inspired by all the amazing creations the DT will have for you. Until next time, stay safe, and stay creative!

Welcome to the September challenge! I was inspired by the coffee and the map this month and created a travel themed layout. I added torn paper strips to both sides of my page and then machine stitched. I added watercolor to my background. I fussy cut the coffee cup from my picture. The cup, saucer, word “coffee” and the scalloped circle coffee cup are from the Coffee Set. The beans and grinder are from the Coffee Set 2. I added mists to them and added them to my page. I added a Coffee Flair on top of the fussy cut teal flower and added some tangled thread. I can’t wait to see what you come up with this month!

I can hardly believe that it is already September and yet here we are once again! Wow, this month’s challenge project came together SO quickly for me this time. Sometimes it helps to have a specific theme and color palette. The photo was taken by my granddaughter on a trip to Ecuador. I thought that the Oh! the Places You’ll Go! chipboard title was perfect for my layout and I chose the Twig Frame with Fall Leaves frame to ground my focal point. To add more dimension, I used the Time Flies Frame Set under my photo. Additionally, I used the Rivet Stencil to add some depth and also completed the layout with some random stamping using the Circle Bokeh Stamp. Those two things were actually done prior to adhering my embellishments. Walnut Stain was used to alter all the chipboard along with a few waxes. All my papers, including the map paper, are from 13 Arts Down Under collection. I hope you enjoy the Challenge as much as I did!

DIY Travel Mini Album Created with B6 Chipboard Journal Covers Eyelet and Twine B6 Journal Binding

My oldest child traveled to Alaska with their 8th grade science class over the summer. The challenge this month was the perfect excuse to create a mini album to hold their memories. I applied a map patterned paper to B6 Planner Covers. Next, I punched holes in the binding and added eyelets so that I could use twine to secure the album signatures to the covers, which are simply folded and stapled sheets of white 8.5×11 cardstock that I trimmed to fit inside the covers. To embellish the front cover, I selected the Travel Corner and the word Explore from the Travel Word Set 1. I applied an iridescent paint to both of the chipboard pieces for a shimmery finish. I added a wood veneer Travel Geo Tag to the top of the binding. I’m planning on working with my child to fill the album with photos and keepsakes from their trip. I’ll share some of the finished pages in an upcoming post.

Hello friends!  Wow!  September already!  This year is flying by and travel is coming to an end in this part of the country.

The September challenge features a map as the twist and to choose one element from the photo.  I did add one, it’s peeking out at the top of this large tag.

I also chose leaf as my my inspiration from the photo.  I used the Leaf Shaker and Autumn Leaves chipboard pieces.

I painted the chipboard with a yellow ochre acrylic paint and then highlighted them with gold wax.

I filled the shaker with multi colored sequins and gold seed beads.

Hi everyone and welcome to the September Challenge!  Love the photo inspiration for the challenge.  It made me think of travel destinations from years past.  As a child I spent my summer in the mountains where my maternal grandparents lived.  Love the outdoors.  When I had children of my own, summer vacations were spent at the beach.   I created this tag as a remembrance of vacations that are close to my heart.    I started off by using the Distressed Crackle Stamp on the background paper.  I heat embossed it with Tim Holtz Distress Vintage Photo embossing power and added some Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.  Lots of layering with chipboard and papers from Blue Fern Studios Wanderlust collection along with some Tim Holtz Idea Ology Snippets and photos from his Photobooth pack. At the base of my layering is the Old World Map Small.   Other chipboard pieces used were from the Film Set.  Both the map and film set were stamped with Tim Holtz Black Soot distress Oxide Ink.  I then applied some embossing medium using the Distressed Crackle Stamp,  and heat embossed with Vintage Photo embossing power and applied some Prima Bronze Wax.  To the right of the tag I used pieces from Mini Leaves Set 1, stamped with Old Paper, Vintage Photo and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Inks.  I hope I’ve inspired you to join us this month.  Can’t wait to see what you create.

Maggi Harding – Scrap, Travel & Bark!

Hi Friends, I was inspired byt the travel elements in the inspiration photo so I scrapped some photos from our trip out west this summer.   I used the Travel Corner to meet the twist and Flourish 19 underneath the flowers.   I heat embossed the chipboard I used with Stampendous Aged Ivory and Eileen Hull Goldenrod embossing powders.  I used lots of pretty layers from the Graphic 45 Life’s A Journey collection to make my layout.  I hoe you” join in the challenge!

Welcome back to another month at creative embellishemtns. I’ve been pretty busy with work and with the summer it is so much harder to get into the craft room. Projects that a need warm weather and just trying to have some fun usually get attempted before my passion. But with the weather cooling off, I see more crafty time in my future. Septembers challenge was fun. Right in my wheel house. So creating for this challenge was a breeze. These tags were fun to create and I love all the crackle and texture. I started with the base tags set 2 and built up from there. I save all my stamps that come from my international packages and decided to put some Russian stamps on here. The twist this month was to use maps so I used the Air Mail paper that is a map and added the Round Distress Stamps to build on the twist this month. I added some texture with the Plaid Stencil and I can never have enough crackle. So I have a little video of the creative process. Enjoy and I hope to see some great entries this month!

Enjoy the video:

I LOVE the colors of this months inspirational image!  I was inspired by them and the camera to create this layout of Ty!  I used the clock hands, harlequin grunge border, distressed clock pieces, Capture The Moment title piece, and small squares stencil.  I have a tutorial up on my blog on how I created this!
