Welcome to the June Challenge here at Creative Embellishments. This month’s Challenge image has a fun Steampunk flair and the “use gears twist” is perfect for that theme! I decided to use a photo of one of the grandsons that was already printed and in my scrap pile. Fortunately for me, I had recently ordered the 10″ Gear style 1. So, I just went mixed media crazy on this OTP project and added inks, texture paste and rusting powder to achieve the effect I was going for by combining Ranger Distress inks with 13 Arts inks.  Here are all the CE products used: Round Ship Window Frame, Handsome Frame Set, Propellers, Gears (Set of 15), Mini Pocket Watches and the Seahorse.  Can’t wait to see YOUR take on the Challenge!

Wow! I can’t believe it is June already! This month’s challenge has lots of browns, steampunk and the twist is to use gears. I used 2 photos of my husband and son greasing the camper wheels back in April. I heat embossed the Steampunk Frame and rubbed some Distress Ink on top. I used the Working Hard chipboard piece for my title. I added some Gears and the Steampunk Pipe Corner. I heat embossed and added Distress Inks to these as well. Check out my blog to see close ups and more info on how I created this page. I am looking forward to seeing what you create this month!

Aquarium Themed Scrapbook Layout with Chipboard Seahorse Coral and Grungy Gears Corner Embellishments

You never know what you will see when chaperoning an elementary school field trip! I went along on a trip to the Glen Echo Park Aquarium in Virginia and was stoked to see a seahorse. The challenge this month was the perfect excuse to finally document this event. I created an embellishment cluster around the corner of my photo using Coral, Seahorse, and Grunge Gear Corner chipboard pieces. I prepped the chipboard with white or gold spray paint. I applied white stain to the coral to give it more texture. I used mist and stain on the seahorse. The base coat of white spray paint allowed the wet mediums to mix to create grungy aqua finish.

Hello friends! Wow!  Here we are at the June challenge!  This year is flying by!  these two tags feature Creative Embellishments Distressed Clocks – Steampunk

Steampunk Mermaid 1, Fishnet Panel 2 and the Steampunk Starfish.

To alter the chipboard I simply inked the edges with chalk ink and then used a copper metallic rub to highlight it.

I wanted some of the original color of the chipboard to show through so I didn’t cover it all.  You can see close-ups on my blog.

Can’t wait to see what you create!

Welcome to June, where has the time gone, spring was only just here and now it’s already summer. Welcome to the June Challenge at Creative Embellishments. This month the inspirational photo rocked. Totally love it, I had about 8 different ideas going through my head, I had to narrow it down because of time and work. I made this large tag. And basically everything on here is CE. I haven’t actually used the steampunk octopus’s yet and why waste anymore time. I started with some tissue paper on the base of the large tag. I did try a little stamping on the background with the Steampunk clock stamp, but should have just mixed with the colour for more of the effect. I then moved on to the texture. Using the Gears 2 stencil and mixing up some different coloured crackle pastes, I cover all of the background and set aside to dry. It was so humid the day I made them I actually had to take a heat gun to the crackle which I don’t normally do. I sat and painted the octopus, just relaxed and painted. It is so detailed that I didn’t video most of it. Using the 1 1/2 inch gears steampunk keys and a the small gears, I filled in the background. I put it all together and made a short video of the creative process.

Here is a short video of the creative process.

Maggi Harding – Scrap. Travel & Bark!

Hi friends! Here it is June and time for another challenge!  The photo inspired me to combine clocks and gears for a Steampunk vibe.  Some people like to use art journals for their musings; I like to use Large Tags for my creative thoughts and processes. So, yes, I’ve used another large tag and covered first with Stamperia’s Clockwise papers and then stamped in the upper right corner with the Distressed Corner Stamp.  I treated some  Black Acrylic Gears with Sizzix Rose Gold Wax and piled them in the corner and also on the tag.  I love the waxed effect on the gears.  Looking forward to seeing your creations!

Jessica Larios – Rusty Underwater Adventures

Hello everyone! Welcome back. We have another inspiring month for you here. It’s all about underwater creatures and steampunk! What an awesome twist! Add gears and/or cogs, done! A Little backstory behind these pieces, I started these canvases almost three years ago. Can you believe it?! Yes, they have been sitting in my craft room for that long. So I made it a point this year to finish them. I don’t know what it was about the layout that blocked me time and time again. I used a lot of beautiful chipboard pieces found in the shop to create them. I started by putting down my Steampunk Mermaid,Steampunk Mermaid 1, Steampunk Pipe Frame, Steampunk Octopus, Pipe Works pieces first to create a base layout. From there, I began laying down my Gears 1 1/2, Gear Set 2 Medium, Loose Parts pieces. Once all my chipboard pieces were down, I painted the surfaces with black gesso. While those dried, I painted my resin pieces with the same black gesso. I then laid down the resin gears. I used four different colors of rust paste randomly to create the final look. For finishing touches, I used some black gesso to distress the edges and added some chipboard quotes.

Here are the cards I created for June’s Challenge – soft and breezy steam punk chippies and gears are the theme of this month’s inspiration board.   I love seeing hoe everyone interprets the main inspirational image.
Creative Embellishments Steampunk Starfish.  These were dabbed gently with acrylic paint using a dry sea sponge to give the stippling effect.
Father’s Day Card by Tracy McLennon
I thought I would take advantage of this more masculine monthly challenge and create a Father’s Day card for my Dad.
Creative Embellishments Chipboard Used:
Large Gear Set
Gears 1″
Distressed BricksI simply inked the edges of the bricks that I used in the corner of my card. For the gears however, I used a combination of embossing powders to give that distressed rusty look. I used Detail Black, Chunky metallic Seasonings and Aged Silver.
For all of the other details on how I created my card you can pop over to my blog HERE.
