Hello dear crafty friends!! I’m back with a new layout to share featuring my oldest grandson, Chase, who got bit by the fishing bug this summer!!!! Fortunately, he did catch his first fish, which I featured in my last layout. Summer is definitely over in Alaska, the leaves are turning yellow and it won’t be long before they will be gone from the trees. But hey, I love fall. Now, on to the layout!!
I started by using the 7 Dots Paper Collection “Hazy Days”, perfect for the photo and theme. I stamped, inked, sprayed, and splattered it to death to get the feeling I wanted for the background.
I think I used every tag that came with the collection to create a fun photo background, in which I inserted Tim Holtz’s acetate Film Strips. Short story here: The title of the layout is “Keeping it Reel” which I thought referred to a fishing “reel”, but really refers to a movie projector “reel”. So, I thought I would have some fun and added a little movie or photo accents to the layout for giggles and grins.
I thought it would look cool to add some Fishnet panel 2 to each of the corners
I used “Vintage Photo” Distressed Embossing Powder on the chipboard to give it the fishnet look. I think it turned out pretty close.
For the title “Keeping It Reel” I painted it with Lindy’s Ink “Tainted Love Teal” and then rubbed it with Art Alchemy’s Metallique Wax in “Rich Copper”. I am so hooked on the effect you get with those waxes!!! You get such a luscious, rich mixture of colors with the under color glowing through. Absolutely love it!
Since Chase is holding his rod and reel, I had to use one on the layout. I just happened to have both left over from the Fishing Set I used in my last layout. I cut a piece of cork to mimic the rod handle, wrapped some twine around the rod and then attached the lure to the end. I treated the rod by painting it with an acrylic paint first and then rubbing it with that magical copper wax I used on the title. For the lure, I used 2 different shades of copper paint and blended them to give them dimension (hard to see on the photo). Then I splattered some black paint to look like an old fishing lure would look. So much fun!
