Hello CE Friends and Fans!! Jenn here today sharing my latest Design Team project. This time I have altered an Art Journal cover in a grungy boho style. I have altered my chipboard and combined it with decoupage paper, flowers, and other fun bits!!

Being a crafter of many things, art journaling is one of them so naturally I have lots of blank journals in my crafty stash at all times! Who wants a boring cardboard cover right? So I decided to give one a facelift so to speak! I have used the beautiful Creative Embellishments chipboard piece (I used one of a set of 2) as my base for florals and other embellishments to bring this cover to life.

Supplies

Creative Embellishments Doily Border
Distress Oxide Sprays
Black Ink
Waxes
White and Black gesso
Collage medium
White and Clear crackle mediums
Decoupage paper
Heat Tool
Liquid adhesive
Glue Gun
Flowers
Embellishments

The chipboard was altered by coating in black gesso followed by Distress Oxide sprays and waxes. While it was drying, I went to work on my background. First a coat of heavy white gesso was applied. Next, I used collage medium to lay a piece of torn decoupage paper. Once this was dry I added clear crackle to the inner portion of my cover and white crackle paste to the outer area. I left this to dry for several hours to get maximun crackle result. Next, lots of inks and oxides! Be sure to dry with a heat tool between colors to prevent muddiness.

Achieving an aged look is a process but so worth it in the end! For mine I have used Distress Oxides, Distress Sprays, and some black ink as well.

Finally I added my dried chipboard to the cover, followed by the flowers and other bits. Final touches of wax and splatter were added as well.

Love all that crackle!! The chipboard piece used is perfect for this too!

Thanks so much for visiting!

Happy crafting!!
