Hello from the Far North!!!  It’s fishing season in Alaska!!  A news for people like Jimmy John Shark. Unfortunately, the salmon runs were at an all time low this year, which is very sad for the commercial fishermen who depend on it for their living.  Anyway, I’m back to doing “guy” layouts.  I really do like that kind of style, just takes a little change in the old noggin to get the hang of it.  Today’s layout is featuring my oldest grandson, Chase, catching his first trout all by himself.  Just look at the size of that trout, it’s almost 2 feet long.  He was so proud, as he usually has help, but not this time.  Oh, and he really was sunburned from the day before, so that’s why he looks so red.

I used the “Captured Adventures” paper collection from 49th & Market for my background.  I ripped, distressed, and inked it to grungy it up!  I really like to use a color on my background that matches something in the photo.  So I searched through my stash and came up  with Lindy’s “Tainted Love Teal”.  It’s perfect.  I inked, stamped and gave the background some texture with some thread.  Love the effect.

I squealed when I found the CE chipboard that was the main focus of the layout.  Look at that Fishing Set!!!!  It has the coolest pieces all together in one bundle.  I had enough pieces for 2 layouts.  The fishing rod is perfect as the focus for this one.  I used Ranger’s Archival black Ink on the rod to look like a silhouette.  For the reel I used a Tim Holtz metal gear and wrapped some colored twine around it for the fishing line.  I strung the twine through the fishing guides on the pole and tied a fishing hook on the end which I painted silver.

Next came the fish or trout.  I painted and re-painted and inked and rubbed color and splattered, etc., etc., to get him to look just right.  I had a lot of help from my son the fishing expert of the family.  I think he turned out pretty cute!

The best part came next!  That precious title Good Things Come to Those Who Bait  How cute is that????

This was a fun layout, and I hope that you enjoy your creative process like I did!!!  Don’t forget to check out the Monthly Challenge and a chance to win tons of wonderful chipboard.  Till next time, here’s a Big Alaska Bear Hug!!!
