Wow I can’t believe we are in the 3rd month of 2014 already. Time just flies by and I noticed quicker as we age. 😛
The challenge for this month is to simply use the inspiration picture and design team member Tammy’s amazing sketch. I know for some inspiration pictures are a bit intimidating but they don’t have to be here. You can be inspired by the colors, a small element such as a butterfly , flower, fairy etc. All you need to do is make sure to use 1 element from the picture and combine with the sketch of course. Easy peasy!! It’s all about the fun of creativity here.
Refer to the guidlines below for the challenge.
The awesome sketch by Tammy Henderson for your continued inspiration.
Now on to the amazing examples created for this challenge.
KARAN GERBER
I have to admit, I’m not a huge mood board fan. I find I NEVER have the colours that mood boards have, and tend to design “outside the box”. The mood board was filled with turquoise, greens and flowers. Hence my flowers on this masculine layout. The sketch, I flipped it on its side and came up with the layout above.
SANDI CLARKSON
I adore working with sketches and this one was so much fun! I took my inspiration from the lime green in the inspiration photo. And of course, from the upward flow on the left of the photo and the butterflies themselves . I was able to get 5 fabulous pieces of CE chipboard on my project. Enjoy!
Michelle Gallant
Hi everyone! I’m so very excited to have my first DT LO posted for Creative Embellishments! I had so much fun this month working with these amazing products. I was very inspired by the soft colors in this photo. The sketch was beautiful as well! I love raw chipboard so I decided to leave it raw on my LO.
Tammy Henderson
Hi everyone! So excited to be here! I flipped the sketch to the left and I used the flowers, butterflies and t colors from the inspo pic (yellow, reds and greens). I used my fave chippie style and that is flourishes!! YUMMY!! For these I used Gesso and mists to cover them. While the gesso was still wet I added some seed beads and quickly dried then misted with color. I also used CE alpha as well same treatment just no seed beads for them.
Emilia van den Heuvel
Hello everybody! This is my first post for Creative Embellishments and I’m super excited to be able to share my chippy creation with you. I followed the sketch, but created a boyish layout. I got inspired from the blue and the green on the inspiration picture and the flying petals. To create my project I used the following CE products: chipboard elements – Social Hash Tags, Gears 1 1/2″, Gears 1″, Mini Gears 3/4″, Steampunk Hot Air Balloon, Chevron Border/Background; rubber stamps – Distressed Chicken Wire background stamp.
Wendy Morris
Hello All! Wendy here and I was inspired by the whimsical feel of the fairy in the inspiration picture to incorporate along with the sketch. So, I used the CE Wavy Music Note Border for a free flowing feel to my layout. I attached a resin fairy directly to the music border. The yellow tones in the inspiration picture were my focal for watercolors in a bright yellow to incorporate the light and rhythm with my theme of dreams, the soul, and today “is a new day”. I don’t really design much with florals, so I reflected in my layout how you can take a sketch and alter with other embellishments yet stick to the sketch design. So, instead of florals, I used CE wood veneer Music Notes. The texture of raw chipboard along with wood worked in a beautiful pairing. Yes! For the mini corked glass vials, I added sand (from the local beach) into the vials and attached to my layout. Then, I added some rubons to the vials. To wrap it up, I finished up my layout with a bit of bling swirls, stamped greetings on labels, and plastic letters.
Nicolle Kramer
Hi Nicolle here and I was inspired by many different elements from the inspiration photo. I was most inspired by the springy colors. However the flow of the background looked so cool to me I went ahead to do my best to mimic it. To create the background I applied different colors of chalk all over the paper. To keep with the flow of the petals I used a prima petal stencil and modeling paste. The fairy also inspired me. I had to add some wings to my page. Lastly I also added some yummy flowers.
Doris Widder
I’m so excited about the first Creative Embellishments challenge reveal with the new team! For my page, I decided to create a mixed media whimsical page with lots of fussy cut flowers. To create the background, I used various tissue papers that I crumpled and glued to the bg cardstock, mimicking the placement of the colors from the inspiration photo. I then brought out the wrinkles with gesso and doodled along the edges with a PITT marker. I was also inspired by the flowers and butterflies from the inspo pic and I carried over the wings from the fairy into my title.
